Currently, the Wallowa River within the project reach has experienced loss of riparian vegetation and exhibits poor stream bank stability. This reach is currently aggrading causing active lateral channel migration into agricultural fields. This project will put approximately 70 acres into a 15-year conservation easement. Specific project actions will include increasing in-stream complexity, increasing floodplain connectivity through channel excavation and activation. A fish screen will be installed to prevent fish entrance to the irrigation system. Finally riparian planting and exclosure fencing will work to keep riparian conditions optimal for protected species.
